About us
Whalextee — honest origins
Whalextee is a one-year craft studio—small on purpose, practical in approach, and committed to getting better with each build. What began with a borrowed bay, a pair of heavy work tables, and a carefully maintained toolkit has grown into a tight, no-nonsense shop for trustworthy hardwood pieces. We speak in clear terms, provide build updates, accept accountability, and resolve problems quickly so clients understand the plan and the reasons behind any change. Whalextee creates solid-wood furniture for day-to-day life.

Coffee tables, dining tables, console units, sideboards, nightstands, book storage, wall shelves, tall towers, bed frames, and modular organizers are designed to serve homes with a quiet, unobtrusive presence. You can specify overall size, shelf pitch, edge treatment, softened corners, preferred joinery, and finishing recipe. Each piece includes clear load recommendations and substrate-specific mounting guidance for gypsum board, brick/block, and concrete so wall installs remain dependable.
Materials are straightforward and proven over time. We work with oak, walnut, ash, and maple for dimensional steadiness and feel. Boards are paired for tone and grain character, rested to the shop climate, and milled on tuned machinery to maintain tight tolerances. Low-smell, interior-safe topcoats protect the surface while preserving the tactile quality of wood—well-suited to homes with kids and pets.
Our U.S. supply network provides documented, traceable stock and hardware. Typical lumber partners include Weyerhaeuser, Baillie Lumber, Rex Lumber, Baird Brothers, Bell Forest, Northwest Hardwoods, Frank Miller Lumber, and Hearne Hardwoods—long-established American sources with chain-of-custody documentation. For mechanisms and fittings we rely on Häfele, Blum, Hettich, Accuride, and Sugatsune for smooth action and long service life. Every named partner is independently verifiable in the United States.
Design and build happen in the same room. Ideas turn into quick bench-side mockups so proportions, reach, and use are proven before any cut. Components are milled flat and square; panels are glued with balanced grain; and joinery suits the task—mortise-and-tenon, loose-tenon, dowel, or threaded-insert assemblies that accommodate seasonal wood movement. Surfaces are sanded progressively under dust extraction, then finished with light, even coats and full curing intervals. Strength is proven on finished furniture and documented; the stated ratings reflect those trials.
We document quality at every stage. Each job rides a traveler sheet through material pull, machining, test fit, surface prep, coating, final assembly, hardware verification, and cleanup. Corners, diagonals, and critical dimensions are recorded; hinges and slides are torqued to spec and confirmed for smooth, noise-free motion. Packaging begins only after sign-off.
Packaging shields edges, faces, and fittings. Edge protectors, cushioning, and labeled parts align with the instruction sequence. Heavy parcels use double-walled cartons; oversized frames ship on strapped skids. Tracking is provided end-to-end, and a receiving card explains how to inspect cartons and how to reach Whalextee immediately so solutions begin quickly if anything looks off.
Day-to-day care is simple. Wipe with a soft cloth and skip aggressive chemicals. Keep distance from heaters and large humidity swings, allow air to circulate around panels, and use felt glides under feet to protect floors and help with leveling. For wall mounts, choose anchors rated for the substrate as described in the guide. When the sheen dulls after long service, a light maintenance oil renews luster.
Clear support, lead times, and pricing. Messages sent through the site form typically receive a response by the next business day (Mon–Fri). In-stock items dispatch quickly; custom dimensions generally require several weeks depending on finish and fittings. **Quotes are itemized—lumber, hardware, and finishing listed separately—**so options are visible and pricing stays clear.
A plain guarantee and sensible returns. If an issue originates with Whalextee or with shipping, we will repair, replace, or refund. Time frames and steps are detailed on the Warranty and Returns pages—short, direct wording with no hidden catches.
Guidance comes before cutting. We can mail finish swatches, provide fast 2D/3D previews on request, and offer practical advice on heights, overhangs, and shelf spacing based on room photos or measurements to make choices easier. Coffee tables should steady cups and books, consoles should support equipment without buzz, and bed frames should remain quiet and rigid night after night.
Why Whalextee favors simplicity. We are not chasing novelty for its own sake. Build for longevity, design for serviceability, keep components standard, and stock replaceable hardware so furniture can be maintained years down the line.
Reach Whalextee anytime through the site form. Questions about sizing, finishes, anchoring, or installation planning receive specific answers, not scripts. Whalextee listens, learns, and builds hardwood furniture for real homes—with the focus and care of a one-year-old workshop.
